God, I wasn't expecting the added verses at the end. It was a lovely rendition up to Pete singing, and then bang! Me in tears. Utterly beautiful. Glad John was there too.
Yes, exactly. This is the VERY best version of that song because of the 2 voices singing "à la tierce", and DALTREY's voice is outstanding particularly when in the high-pitched. This version is excellent, very enjoyable !

I do wish John had been able to chime in with his thoughts, especially since he didn't have much longer to live here, but he would probably have used the opportunity for a bit of his trademark morbid humor.
Roger’s voice sounds so good here. Unfortunately I’ve been on the receiving end of the band cancelling a couple times because his throat gave out. In Houston we were up front and he gave Pete a warning but the band just kept going and suddenly Roger just stepped back and walked off.
Beyond the simple positve votes for The Who, as someone who was 20 when they actually wrote this stuff, I have to remark on Roger's perfect, absolutely perfect, management of this song live. He does not stretch to notes he can no longer reach and he plays nicely, but not stupidly, to the audience. What a beautiful practitioner of his art. I look at Roger and think "wow, what a superb example of grace with the wisdon of age". Only Robert Plant can equal this level of eloquence. Hats off.
Its great to see the Ox with the band. If I had to list the three most memorable bass players I've seen live in concert I'd say..... (1) John Entwistle (2) Geddy Lee (3) Chris Squire

I was lucky to see The Who for the first time at the Lyceum when I was 14 or 15 , I’m 64 now and seen them umpteen times over the years and they are a class act, thank you Graham Johnson for introducing this band to me.

Many years ago when watching a concert by The Who on TV with friends, there was a young punk who loved Metalica ( nothing wrong with that ) who wouldn't stop ragging on about The Who, he simply kept on till we almost came to blows..( laughing ) The moral to this story : Metalica imploded and the kids remain. Yeah, Daltrey was the best rock singer. But what's amazing to me is that if The Who had been a trio without Daltrey -- with Townshend and Entwistle on vocals -- they still would have been one of the greatest bands ever.

Pete's voice was able to be so delicate, yet still have attitude when it needed. John's voice was so versatile, both in range and dynamics. I personally love his versions of Twist and Shout.

Whoa! -- 5:19 With what Daltrey's voice has been through over the decades he had NO business being able to sing that delicately and in that register. Nice how Townshend acknowledges it in the moment. Those two have sure been through a lot together. And that was live, kids. No lip synching, click track crap for these lads.
It's so moving to hear this song and see these guys do it from the perspective of years. (Miss you Keith) Very touching. I love Pete almost as much as Eddie Vedder does. Maybe more.
That sounds right. The Beatles made it big commercially a couple of years before The Who did, so this might have been a successful attempt to get a Beatles-like sound. But Keith Moon (in the original recording) adds a whole other dimension, as he did for all of The Who songs until his death.
I saw them at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas in the 80's. Going in was truly scary, being pressed from all sides by people for the longest time, waiting to get in. The thing I thought was hilarious though was when we were in seats but the ground was standing room only, the emcee came up to the front microphone and screamed, "everybody move back, everybody move back!!!". Nobody moved. A few minutes another guy did the same thing. Nobody moved. The WHO come out, Roger holds the microphone and says, very sweetly, "would you mind shuffling back?" The whole floor of people move as one, backwards.
The Who were Punk Rock they had the attitude for their time they had that Rebellious streak with the attitude as well and they had the sound to match it on top of that.
